FG Partners UNODC to Reform Correctional Service

The Federal Government (FG) has collaborated with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) to improve the correctional service in the country.

This was made known in a statement issued by the Director, Press and Public Relations of the Ministry of Interior, Ozoya Imohimi on Wednesday.

According to the statement, the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo in a meeting with the Country Representative of UNODC in Nigeria, Dr. Oliver Stolpe on Tuesday reiterated the need for the partnership in upgrading the status of the correctional service.

His words: “It is important we implement the inmate audit project as soon as we can. Implementing the inmate audit is key towards actualizing our desire and plan for correctional service.”

Dr. Tunji-Ojo stated that he is poised to transform the correctional centres to become correctional and reformative in nature and not destructive.

Earlier in his remarks, Dr. Stolpe disclosed that he visited to update Minister Tunji-Ojo on the ongoing projects and to get his ideas towards the success of the projects.
